Root Canal Treatment

Fear of visiting the dentist has been decreasing over time, but lack of regular dental check-ups can still lead to untreated tooth decay and other dental problems. If the decay has not reached the pulp, the soft tissue at the center of the tooth, it can often be corrected with a filling. However, if the pulp has been damaged due to infection, injury, or decay, a root canal treatment becomes necessary.

Root canal treatment is performed when the pulp is damaged due to infection, injury, or decay. The primary goal of the procedure is to preserve the tooth and restore its functionality.

During the procedure, the infected or inflamed pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected. Then, the tooth is filled and sealed. Depending on the tooth, a crown may be required for protection and to restore its natural function and appearance.

Contrary to popular belief, root canal treatment is typically not painful since it is performed under local anesthesia. However, some mild discomfort may be experienced after the anesthesia wears off, which can be managed with over-the-counter or prescribed pain relievers.

At our clinic, we strive to restore teeth so that they mimic natural teeth as closely as possible. However, depending on the restoration used, there might be a slight difference in color or shape compared to the natural tooth.

A dental examination is necessary to evaluate the extent of the damage and plan the treatment. Be sure to provide your complete medical history to your dentist.

Although it’s rare, a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment can get reinfected, particularly if the tooth is not properly cared for or if the restoration fails.

It’s possible for a filling or crown to become loose or fall out, especially when consuming hard or sticky foods. If this happens, contact our clinic immediately so our dentist can address the issue.

Initially, the tooth may feel sensitive, especially to hot and cold, but this typically subsides within a few days to weeks.

It’s advisable to avoid smoking for at least several days after treatment, as smoking can impede the healing process and contribute to postoperative complications.

The cost of root canal treatment can vary depending on the complexity of the problem and the tooth affected. However, it’s generally less expensive than the alternative treatments required to replace a lost tooth. For a precise estimate, schedule an appointment at our clinic.
